Community Eats? What?
This is totally a churchy food blog.
If you’re still around, let me explain. My church, Mars Hill, has these things called community groups. They meet throughout the week and there is talking and eating and talking. And eating.
In my particular community group, I pick a recipe, send out an e-mail, and everyone in the group signs up to bring 1 ingredient. I then involve as many people as possible in preparing the meal.
While bringing people together over a meal is awesome, finding recipes that work can be really, really difficult. They need to be affordable, feed everyone, and go from prep to table in no more than 40 minutes. Fortunately, my roommate hosted community group before me, and was able to provide several tested recipes and her own considerable knowledge in setting up a meal.
Further efforts to find good community eats lead me to the library, the Internet, other community group leaders, random people on the street (seriously), but out of all that, I got perhaps 10 workable recipes. I couldn’t find anything on “technique,” that is, how to bring the community into the cooking.
So, I’m making my own resource. This blog will document the recipes I use each week, along with how I’ve tailored them to cooking with and for communities.
I feel like I should close with some lame cooking term.
But I won’t.
